Default Dell Inspiron blinking light question

With the AC power on, when the lid is closed, the light all the way on
the left blinks green and later alternates between green and red. What
does the red light mean? I could not find anything in the documentation
about this.

thanks

Oops--I meant the light all the way on the right.

yes, the battery is defective and not charging correctly.
you didn't say the model number but most dell batteries have a test button
directly on the battery. if you press the button and only every other of
the five leds light, then the battery is defective.

Thanks for the feedback. I have now called Dell and was informed that
the problem is, indeed, the battery. The code: 4 blinks of amber then
one of green apparently indicates a defective battery. Odd, though, that
when I pressed the battery test button, all five lights came on.

Dell is sending a new battery and so I'll see what happens with it. My
battery (and computer) is only 6 months old.
