I have re read both 'her' posts and nowhere does 'she' say that.

Re-read the other one.

"... this laptop came with the simplest warranty,
which is apparently mail-in. As mentioned, I can do the
work but would prefer not to, but I wonder what Dell's
position will be if I make a damaging error."

Thanks for the education.

My problem is mostly solved! Our grandson will be here
next weekend from college, and he's a whiz with such things.

Perhaps Dell's philosophy is to propose the lowest-cost
solution (to Dell), and see if it's accepted. I probably
could have mailed this in, but it works so-so without
the fix and I really don't want to be without it even
for a few days.

I can't imagine why they wouldn't just mail it in. DHL drops off the
box, waits for you to pack it and takes it away. It has never taken
longer than 48 hours to have it returned.

That was my plan if I ever had to get any fixed. Fortunately I never did.

I guess that depends on what needs fixing, right ? Somethings can be
fixed in less than an hour with good tutorials from dell. One case
in point, I had some cracks near some hinges on a laptop. It wasn't
worth it to me to lose the laptop for 2 or 3 days so I just crazy
glued it and the glue has done the job pretty well (to my surprise tho
I consider laptops as disposable when I can't fix them). I will agree
for the faint at heart tho, 48 hours sounds good.

Don't get me wrong, this is a fix I would have done myself. But the OP
clearly is uncomfortable enough to have asked, so...

I am always leery of college-age computer whizzes. They think they know
everything, and I've already forgotten more than they know. You've been
warned... Ben Myers
