Dell Bluetooth Package

Dell offers a bluetooth package which includes a "bluetooth wireless
media hub", a bluetooth mouse and a bluetooth keyboard but they don't
describe what the "hub" is or how it works. I can't tell if it sits
on the desk or is installed in a pc slot. They don't even say what
"media" they are talking about. This package seems to be the only way
to get a wireless mouse/keyboard with a dell pc - which is all I
really want.

Can anyone help with a description of this media hub that a bluetooth
novice can understand?

Lou,

While it may not be the only model, the ones I have seen (Dimension E521)
were simple USB plug-in models (it's about the size and appearance of a USB
key/flash drive). There may be more, but I'm not sure.

Check out this link for a Dell Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Comes
with a USB dongle. Have this for my Inspiron 530. Works great. Mouse
is very responsive and accurate.

i have the dell bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse, but i dont have
the media hub. i do have the multimedia keyboard. but there are no usb
ports on it at all.
i actually thought the media hub was only on the wired multimedia
keyboards. i would think they draw too much battery otherwise.

i also have a dell wired multimedia keyboard.
on the back are two usb slots. i dont think they are powered.
its really no great shakes. i hardly use them.
not when you got a bunch on the front, and a bunch on the flat panel itself.

also a warning about the bluetooth KB and mouse.
i actually like the keyboard better than the mouse.
the mouse goes thru batteries like crazy.
also i dont like the way it goes to sleep, then when you start typing
again, it takes several seconds or more sometimes to wake up and connect
and get going. i dont like that.

Thanks for the comments. I was trying to figure a Dell xps 420 and
the only option for wireless mouse & keyboard I found was the one I
described that includes a "wireless media hub". I still don't know
what that is.

I have heard the comment you made about the wireless mouse "eating"
batteries elsewhere - and that may discourage the whole idea for me.

Thanks ZaXXoN. I didn't see that as avaialable for an XPS 420 I was
configuring. Just the option I described - which has a "wireless
media hub" - whatever that is.

I bought an XPS420 a couple weeks ago and the bluetooth was built into the
19-in-1 card reader, which occupies the "floppy drive slot" on the front
panel of the computer. Internally the card reader is wired directly to a
special port on the motherboard. It doesn't take up any USB or PCI slots.

Thanks Paul. That's the info I wanted to know! I am at a loss as to
why that information is not (as far as I know) available on the Dell
site.
