Default Continuous Reboots Plague Windows XP SP3 Users

""What are you doing this weekend? How about watching your PC
continually reboot? That's what some aggravated Windows XP users have
been doing Friday after installing the XP service pack 3 (SP3)."

No, I'm NOT watching my pc continually reboot because I'll likely
not bother with SP3 or if I do, I'll wait about 3 to 6 months for the
smoke to clear. I've tweaked my sp2 fairly well over the years so I'm
confident it's not going to improve that much more so why take a
chance with Microsoft messing something else up and then I have to
figure out how to fix that. Just more work to do unless you like beta
testing MS crap. To be honest, I'm still tweaking my SP2 as things
develop that annoy me and by now it's pretty well documented on the
net which SP3 has not had a chance to do yet. More the reason to
wait. And yes, I'm aware SP3 is mainly updates and tweaks or so I've
read.

Oh, that makes me think about Vista. The other day I read that
Ballemer (sp?) said that "Vista is a work in progress" . IMO, they
are then selling a beta copy. It's a pity that a billion dollar
company can't finish their own product before selling it. Yeah, I
know it's all about the $$$.

I am using one Dell with XP SP3 and another with Vista SP1 and am
having none of the problems that I have seen reported. Any
difficulties involved were due to my own error.

XP is a work in progress, too. So are OSX, and Linux (any flavor).
Would you have an OS with no more bug and security fixes for it
before you buy? You'll be getting an end-of-life product if you do.
You might as well stick to 98 or ME since they are finished works.

Oh yeah, SP3 works fine for me and I have a quite a bit of extra
hardware on my system (webcam, TV tuners, scanner, barcode
reader, tape drive, appliance control)

My Dell laptop, Inspiron 600m, would not update over the internet.
Downloading the XPSP3 CD image and installing from a CD worked fine.

Not according to MS.

I think actions speak louder than words. The release of SP3
tells me MS is still supporting XP. In fact, Ballmer has made
very strong hints that XP will continue to be supported long
after the original cutoff date.

I have installed SP3 on Three different Dells so far. An Optiplex 280,
A Latitude D800, and an XPS 400. All upgrades were done over the
internet at Microsoft's update web site. I have had zero problems. The
only word of warning I have is to set aside about 30 to 45 minutes for
the upgrade to finish.

You took the words out of my mouth. Even the holy MAC OS has had patches
and updates....

I've found that SP3 is working just fine for us. It's actually doable to
let patch programs like WSUS to download and install it. I've never been
able to say that for any other service pack (W2K/XP/Vista)...
