looking for some help on an old Dell Latitude CPi laptop I cam accross from
a friend. I am trying to do a new install of windows but the boot order is
not right to boot from CD. Anyway to change the boot order I need a password
for the BIOS. any help to get around this or clear the password is
appreciated.

Are these messages still doing the rounds?
It's a nice euphenism isn't it, even allowing for the poor grammar? "
I cam accross from a friend" equates to "I'm in possession of stolen
property".

Dell support can give you a master password if you can prove ownership.
Nice friendly group!!!! thnks for always thinking the best in people. I
don't think I have to do this but I will. The laptop is an old work laptop
that is being replaced by the company. They are taking it out of inventory
and rather than discard it (wonder how many here would rather that) they
donated it to the tech's work van so they do not have to use new ones in the
worksite. We called the IT dept and they do not, or will not, don't know
which, have the original password.
However I do appreciate all the help and kindness in this group and I hope
your negativity (Gee hope I spelled that correctly) and paranoia get better
with a little white pill!
Cheers!

Who was being negative?
Given what you've said above, tech support would probably give you the
master password w/o proving ownership for a system that old.
Further, if there was a magic wand (again, since it is a system that old and
not worth much), I'd have given it to you.
"Relax, Francis."
Got nothing to lose by asking Dell for it after explaining what's going on.
