So what happens if we get the monitor, and it is defective? Will we
have to pay for the return shipping when doing the exchange?
Here is what I think we will order. Total comes out to about $740
including tax. Pretty good deal, right? Will confirm with my parents
tonight. Thanks to everyone who's helped with all my questions the
last few days.

The monitor warranty will mirror the system warranty.
If it fails, Dell will send you a replacement with an airbill in the box.
Remove the replacement from the box, pack the failed monitor into the same
box, label it with the provided label and phone DHL to arrange a pick up
time.

It looks like a great deal. Usually I would suggest looking at the
Dell outlet for a XPS 420 but you wouldn't get this kind of deal
including the 24" monitor.

You have chosen to not include a dedicated graphics card. Is this by
choice, or have you made a mistake? I would absolutely want at least a 128
MB card in that machine. I have basically the same unit, an Inspiron 530,
with nearly the same hardware you have chosen. But I got mine with a 128 MB
ATI graphics card. I certainly suggest a dedicated video card.

I posted another question asking that a couple days ago, and someone
said the Intel 3100 should be good enough. If we find that it's a bit
slow, I can always upgrade the video card, or we can just turn off
Aero.

Yeah there was a coupon for $350 off any Inspiron 530 over $999. And
another coupon for free second day shipping. And I'm hoping that they
give us 5% cash back because I used the ShopDiscover link to Dell.com.

If the Intel 3100 isn't good enough, you might be stuck. Some of these
(Dell) notebooks ordered with integrated video have no expansion slot for a
dedicated graphics card.
I personally would try to bundle at least a 128mb 8400 card in with whatever
you order.

It's a desktop but I wouldn't go with integrated graphics with Vista.
Get a dedicated video card.

Integrated video has been just fine for my Vista notebook. I can even
acceptably use it with a 24" monitor at full resolution while watching
video, with no problems. Integrated video on a laptop uses less
battery power.
I'm a little confused -- Stew mentions a notebook but I thought you
were getting a desktop computer. If you're getting a desktop then by
all means consider a dedicated video card. Why? Because they
generally don't cost that much and it would be nice to have if you do
any really video-intensive things with it like computer gaming.

Yes, it's a desktop, so I hope I can add a video card later?
I plan on adding a Blu-Ray DVD-ROM drive to the computer, and I just
found out that the integrated graphics definitely won't cut it for
playing Blu-Ray DVDs. So I definitely need to upgrade the computer to
a video card.
Hey!
Just bought a similar machine 530 core 2 quad cpu 3 gigs and 24
monitor. Was only ok with intel graphics but but great with the 8800gt
i dumped in it. Shop around for the graphics card. There are GREAT
deals to be found.
