Default adding HD?

Hello all,

Do I need any special brackets to add an additional HD to me Dell 2400?

I remember in my old machine, ( standard PC clone) all I needed were the 4
small screws ribbon cable and power connector, all of which were already
inside waiting to be connect and the screws usually came with HD.

Thanks,

Dave-

You need a metal mounting bracket and two standard computer-type screws to keep
the bracket in place next to the other one for the first hard drive. Also as
few as two mounting screws, because the bracket has metal protrusions which line
up with the screw holes on one side.

FWIW, the mounting bracket from an old Compaq Presario will also do the job.
Same shape. Same mounting tabs. Same Mitac manufacturer... Ben Myers

Ben, did the 2400 include an extra set of rails? I ask because I
thought I remembered it did with one I use to have (unless I'm
confusing it with another system I sold) ?

It didn't use rails, but rather a steel/metal removable tabbed cage.

All of the 23XX/24XX/46XX/47XX/30XX/31XX and B1XX Dimensions used this Mitac
case.

It was the beginning of the end of distinctive case/chassis design for Dell.

No real rails on a 2400. There is a second optical bay though. You can
put a drive there with a 3 1/2 to 5 1/4 adapter.

Remember to that the hard drive in a 2400 has a single drive cable.
You'll need a new cable to add a second drive.

The Dimension 2400 does not use any rails at all. The hard drives mount in a
metal mounting bracket so that the drives have a vertical orientation in the
front of the chassis, much like the old beige Dell Dimensions.

The Dimension 2400 does not ship with an extra empty second tray, but it has the
necessary mounting holes. The Dimension 4600 or 4700 (I forget which) ships
with an empty second tray, I think. The 2400, 3000, 4600 and 4700 share the
same small metal chassis, also made by Mitac (I am pretty sure). The 2300 and
2350 use an earlier and similar version of the chassis, also with a provision to
install and mount a second disk drive... Ben Myers

Look inside it. My 8200 came with extra brackets with screws
attached.

I'll say again. The 2400 does not use rails/brackets like the 8200 and
does NOT come with the drive cage for a second hard drive
