I am inching towards Vista. It seems like I run into time-consuming
details that are frustrating.
On XP, I am able to get 5.1 sound out of my system with no problem. On
XP I use an external Soundblaster Live USB "card".
On Vista, with the Creative drivers for Vista, I am not able to get
the actual music to come out of all speakers, but when I run a test
from Control Panel | Sound all the speakers are recognized correctly.
So, I thought it might be some Soundblaster-related problem.
Here is my question:
- I have yellow, black, and green connectors from my speaker system.
The XPS410 is 7.1. Where do I put my colors into the XPS's on the
back (the colors don't match completely -- for example I think Yellow
goes to Orange).
I did look at the XPS 410 manual but it didn't clarify things enough,
and I have tried all the different permutations, including disabling
Soundblaster so that the integrated sound from the XPS would be the
only active one.
In Control Panel | Sound I have the following choices:
1) Speakers - High definition audio device - working (this is what I
default to)
2) Digital Output Device (SPDIF) - working
3) Internal Aux Jack (it shows a card, I don't think this is the
integrated sound) - working
The last two are Soundblaster specific.
If I knew what to connect my colors to the back of the computer colors
that would help a lot.
Also, I don't know what SPDIF is but I will Google it and maybe that
might help as the external Soundblaster handles that (Is that the same
type of cable used for Video for TV? -- no, can't be I am confusing
that with something else).
Thanks for any help.
(as a fallback, someplace I bought a 5.1 to 1-jack device for about
$5, but I only planned on using that to connect things like an iPod
directly so that's a last resort)
