What are my options for upgrading the graphics card in my Dimension
9200? I currently have an Nvidia 7900 GS in there which I have
overclocked a tiny bit using the ATITool application.
I can run a game like Crysis ok (a mix of medium and low settings at
1200*800 resolution) but as I have a Dell 24" monitor I'd like to be
able to run it at the native 1920*1200 if possible, without breaking the
bank, I'd like to do this for less than £200. ($400)
Would one of the new 8800GT cards that are coming out be able to handle
that? Could I buy two and SLI them on a 9200 or is the motherboard not
SLI compatible?
What about the PSU? I'm currently running 4 SATA drives and an external
USB drive which might cause a problem, but I can easily drop that down
to two SATA if i need to.
The motherboard only has one x16 slot, so SLI isn't the answer (if it
ever is). I run an 8600GS in mine along with 5 hard drives without
problem. Dell underrates their power supplies.
I think the 8800 would be a good choice.
