Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I have a 600m laptop that
suddenly stopped recognizing, in any way, USB devices plugged into
either of the two available ports in the back. All devices appear to
receive power from the ports, but nothing happens. Mice, barcode
scanners, thumb drives - no device is recognized by Windows.
I've found a few procedures to try, but perhaps someone can hone me in
on the correct one more quickly.

First, have a look in device manager to be sure there are no "!" or "?"
conflicts shown for your USB controller(s).
Secondly, F2 into BIOS and reset factory defaults or manually locate the USB
controller listing(s) and be sure it is set to "enabled"/"on".

Even before that and knowing how ******* up things can get with winxp
(or any MS OS), I'd reboot first and see if that cures it then if not,
I'd proceed to the above solutions. I speak from experience.

which i suppose means that you would consider it a compliment if i were to
call you a smart ****.
but seriously, since we don't know what lead up to this (possibly a new
piece of sotware installed, a new usb device introduced), and assuming that
it is running xp (given the vintage of the machine) i would suggest removing
all usb devices and then doing a system restore to a time when the op last
knew the usb devices to be working.

Wouldn't disagree with trying that at all, Chris. And thanks for the
accurate compliment.
