Default 3 wire Brushless Fan conversion

Guys,

I am in the process of replacing a dead case fan with a more reliable brushless
fan. I got this off of ebay. The dead case fan had two wires while the new
brushless fan has 3.... red, blue, yellow. Anyone know how I should be wiring
this brushless fan? TIA.

More info needed, please. Is this for a Dell, and, if so, which model? If
not, for which make/model of motherboard? ... Ben Myers

don't have any idea what fan you have there, but often the thrid wire is
used to report fan speed back to the system.
if your old fan is dead then why not cut the lead from it leaving the
motherboard connector in tact and then strip the ends of those leeds and try
to feed those leeds into the enw fin to see what it needs to power up...

Ugh! A move of desperation. Far better to get a fan plug-compatible with the
old one, albeit with better specs and quality... Ben Myers

what you cal desperation i call logic. unless the op is a complete novice
and hasn't bother to check if his/her new fan is the correct voltage then no
harm would come from trial and error of connecting the two leads from the
motherboard to the three leads of the new fan using the connector and wires
from the original fan... and once he/she figures it out then the leads can
be cut and soldered so the original motherboard connector can be used. then
again if the op wasn't a complete novice he/she might not have asked in the
first place... then again, with free advice, you get what you pay for (and
often, with paid advice, you even less than what you pay for).

Hmmmm...fan speed..... that must be the yellow wire, then. I'll just cut the
wires and hook it up to the fan. Positive to positive, and negative to
negative... skip the yellow wire. I'll report back as to my success. Thanx.

PS-
Actually, this fan is for a SCSI disk array I built. Why I posted this in this
group? I have many Dell laptops. I thought my question was generic enough to
benefit all. Take a look at my disk array:
