I can purchase the following for $400.00. It's less than four months
old. I currently have an E1505 with a T2050 1.6 dual core and I am
generally quite happy with the speed.
I was thinking of getting this one becasuse it was newer and selling the
E1505 for $400.00, as I'm pretty sure I could get $400.00 for it.
I was just going to put WinXP on the Laptop.
What do you think? Is the T2310 comparable? I think the 2050 has
a 2 meg cache and the 2310 a one meg.
Jet Black Top color
Screen is in mint condition, comes with case
Intel Dual-Core Mobile Technology T2310 (1MB/1.6GHz)
Webcam
Inspiron 1520, Intel Pentium Dual Core processor
1GB, DDR2, 667MHz Dimm
High resolution wide screen 15.4 nice display
120GB hard drive
Vista Home Premium operating system
8x DVDRW
Integrated Intel X3100 Video Card
Windows Vista home premium with Re installation CD
the e1505 is a much better quality laptop.
speed will be the same.
i wouldnt do it.

Thanks for the insight on this. I figured the quality would be about
the same.
Since I really, really like my e1505, I'll take your advice.
Thanks a lot.

Why is it you think the e1505 is better than the 1520?
i may have confused the 1520 with the 1525.
i agree the 1520 is better than 1525.
it is more like the vostro 1500 on the business side.
i've sold dozens of the e1505/e1405 and they are all still working
today. solid computer, strong, and reliable.
i would buy a used latitude d630 or d830 from the outlet for 600, you
will get a new 3 yr warranty,
and then sell your used e1505.

is an inspiron 1520 with t2310 processor faster than a inspiron 1505 with
t2050 processor? yes.
is an inspiron 1520 with t2310 for $400 a great bargain? not really. seems
that some recently sold on ebay at this price. you have to confirm that the
person you are purchasing it from is actually the registered user or no
warranty service can be claimed. the remainder of warranty is the most
valuable part of this purchase and it is assumed to be only for one year
from date of manufacturer (if it is more than one year and sold by the
registered owner who can transfer warranty to you then the machine is a good
deal at that price).
is your inspiron 1505 with t2050 worth $400? not likely. more
realistically it is worth $300 and if sold on ebay remember that between
ebay and paypal fees they get about 11%.
should you do it? that is up to you. reinstalling an operating system on
the new machine takes lots of times, getting your data moved to a new
machine and getting it configured to the way you like takes lots of time,
and the upside is not a vast improvement in performance. so it seems not
terribly attractive. but then again if you have a lot of time, or just find
the exercise to be interesting or informative, and/or the warranty on the
new machine is transferable so you will be getting a warranty out of this
then you might want to do it.

Thanks for the thoughtful and insightful comments.
I went ahead and bought it. The computer currently has Vista and if I
keep it, I'll change to XP. The laptop is as new and the guy is the
original owner. I'm going to change the registration and the warranty
is good until 2009.
The screen resolution is higher than my 1505. The 1520 is 1440 x 900
and I'm not used to it. The text size is pretty small and the icons,
etc don't look as good if I change the DPI.
I changed the stuff in "Appearance" , so most things look okay.
