Default 1505 laptop - Vista Home Premium - CHKDSK C: /F won't run

When I run error checking from properties-Tools on C: the normal dialog
does not appear and it clearly does
not scan the whole disk. When I run chkdsk from a command prompt in read
only mode the dialog is much clearer
and it completes 73231 of 97424 files. "Attribute record (128, "") from file
record segment 7589 is corrupt."
"Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode.

When I run it with the /F parameter and re-boot, it does not seem to run. At
least with any dialog that I can see.

Re format and reload OS ?

Any thoughts ?

Ray

press f12 during the power on self test (dell logo) and you should enter
dell diagnostics where you can run a full disk test. if it produces and
error that would probably trigger dell to replace the drive if under
warranty.

Had the exact same problem with an Acer lapop with Vista Home. Turned out
to be sectors in critical files that had been corrupted. After several
attempts by store techs to fix, I returned the laptop and got another
(w/Vista) and that's been fine ever since.
