Default WD passport portable appears "unknown"

my wd passport portable MDL:wd1600xmsb-00 appears as unknown and unreadable under administrative settings/computer management/storage.
it doesnt appear in "my computer". i have windows vista. what can i do to fix it?? plz help. it appears in the safety removal but i cant find it in "my computer"

Have you tried it on XP? Just that I was thinking it may not be Vista compatible or perhaps you will need the correct drivers, since Vista appears to have driver issues.

sorry for not answering before, but i already tried it on a xp but it still appears as unkown device. do u know any way to get the information that i have on the drive?
