Default SL9S7 Core 2 Duo Overheating

Hey, i ahve a SL9S7 core 2 duo cpu and am using the stock intel fan i recently built a new computer using a p5n32 - sli Premium motherboard and when i turn on the computer it beeps repeatedly for around 15 seconds then stops after around 30 seconds of start up the computer overheats and turns off.

When i press a pentium 4 cpu fan with copper base to the cpu it works fine so im thinking i need a new CPU fan.

if you know of any issues relating to the cpu of the intel fans plz reply! and i need suggestions for a new socket 775 CPU thats under like $50.

Im looking at this fan atm

I'd be tempted to switch the unit off and check the fan, it should be free to spin without the slightest of resistance, can you flick it with the fingers or a pen? At the same time make sure it isn't caked in dust same with the heatsink.

1) Pressing the fan down seems to suggest the fan could be at fault.

2) The CPU is not in contact with the heatsink maybe due to the clamp becoming loose.

3) The heastsink paste or thermal washer wants replacing.... or the CPU itself wants removing and re-seating its contacts becoming intermittent through heat and age.

NOTE:
Extreme care should be taken if you should elect to remove the CPU because of possible damage. Always do this with machine unplugged, touching the bare metal case with bare hands to discharge any static before handling, always avoid touching the pins if at all possible.

Always use new heat sink paste like Arctic Silver or similar and clean all the old stuff off both surfaces - they need to be spotless. Do not be tempted to remove the heatsink from the CPU without cleaning both surfaces before refitting.

Removing the CPU should only be done as a last resort.

Before doing any of this you could go into bios set up screen... not that we are going to adjust anything but to monitor, you can check the CPU temperature there too see if its too high, it just might provide a clue.
