Default New board, cpu, psu and memory - errors

I have just bought some new kit. Intel Quad cpu, P5QL-EM motherboard, Fatality DDR2 memory and a power supply.

I have tried to do a fresh installation of Windows from various CD's (2000, Xp pro, Xp home - even Knoppix!). They all start reporting not being able to find files during installation. The Knoppix one reported not being able to find it's file system (fine on another PC).

I reckon the problem is down to one of these....
* I haven't put the cpu fan properly onto the cpu
* incompatible memory
* Power supply

Are any of those likely to cause the sort of errors I'm getting?

Any suggestions VERY gratefully received

From past experiences my first bet would be the ram memories.
If you have more than one you can simply try using only one module during the install.
If the issue remains just swap the memory for the other module.

In some cases after the install is complete I've been able to run with 2 modules just fine, Just had issues during the install.

If the CPU fan wasn't attached properly you'd have other symptoms (Beep codes and no video being the most common ones).

Same with the PSU... (Random shutdowns of the system being one of the more common symptoms)

I can't speak for the P5QL mobo... I wonder if the RAMs are suitable for the mobo, just that I came across a mobo that would only work properly with the range of recommended RAM brands.
