MAXTOR SATA 500gb HDD into a dell optiplex gx270

Hi Folks

Wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction on this issue i have...

I have bought a 500gb Maxtor DiamondMax SATA hdd to install as a slave HDD in my Dell Optiplex gx270.

I have physically installed the hdd in the base unit and it isnt seen anywhere within the Windows OS

I then rebooted and entered the BIOS, changing the Drive configuration to AUTO for SATA Primary drives, managed to boot through a couple of minor boot issues back into windows, the hdd could then be seen within manage drives, it gave me the option to assign a drive letter and format, however, when trying to access it from my computer i get an error saying it is not accessible and may be open in another window

i have run the maxblast software from the Maxtor/seagate website and am now officially stuck!

Normally all you have to do is to configure the linking pins at the back.
