Default HD error

I have a HD error ... probably a bad sector ... when I run a Dell dignostic program, I'm getting
error code: 0F00: 0244
msg. block 20783914
uncorrectable data error or media is write-protected

msg. blocks keep going on and on ... i think so far there has been over 15 blocks reported.

Obviously, my HD is fried and I need to get a new one, but my question here is has anyone had experience with this to tell me whether the data could be recovered at this point?

Certainly sounds like bad sectors, there are many data recovery software programs knocking about that will help retrieve files from a damage drive, I have never used them personally so can't comment further the only other alternative is to send to a Data Recovery firm.

I had a personal hard drive fail with a lot of pictures on it that had not bee backed up. Data recovery is not cheap, but they can recover just about anything (hard drives burned in fires, flooded, corrupted, etc).

Good luck...

I should have added.... I learned the hard way, now I have a slave which I use for storage only and I keep a cloned copy of the hard drive on a external USB hard drive along with any important files etc.

When mine went it went in a unusual way, first the screen would blank out for a split second once in a while, sometimes freeze or some times locked up requiring a reboot, but oddly only when I was doing something important like an urgent text document.

Rebooting the bios sorted things out for a short while, so I tried a new power supply to no avail, shortly after I noted a bit if clicking and the Windows would sometimes take ages to load, before I could say "boo" to a goose the drive started to clang and bang like the garbage collectors wagon.

A new hard drive cured my fault even with the old power supply fitted.

The devil was human, initially it only misbehaved when I wanted some important work be it CAD or plain ol' typing... if it wasn't important it was good as gold. And I nearly KO'd myself with the lump hammer... smashing the platters up.
