Default Floppy Disks fail(40)

I get this error everytime i start my PC. Please help me how to get rid of it.
It gives me 2 options F1 to continue or DEL for entering setup.
Is there some way through which i can disable my floppy drive by entering BIOS Setup so that is stops prompting me at the startup.

Sure, just go to the BIOS setup (press DEL) and disable the floppy drive in "Peripherals" (or something named similar) menu.

I've had this in the past too : I used to "fiddle around" with the drive cable - on and off, and hope that it was just that the connection was "dodgy".

Finally, I got so p1ssed off with the recurring fault that I carefully examined the connection socket **INSIDE** the FDD - and found suspect soldering around the pin connections to the FDD internal board . A hot soldering iron and some more solder on the suspect pins seems to have cured it - I haven't seen any "error 40" messages in an aeon..... and this Floppy Drive has been in all my 'puters since the ear of the 286 !
