Default Dell Dimension 8300 ALERT! . . . . Checkpoint SIGN & POKE

4 1G Memory sticks arrived and we installed it in our Dell Dimension 8300 and booted up the computer and the computer made 4 short beeps and did not start the OS (XP Pro). We turned off the computer and tried a reboot after waiting 5 minutes with the same results. We removed the 1G RAM and reinstalled our 4 512K Dell sticks; the computer makes a single beep and white letters with a black screen shows Stating: ALERT! Previous attempts at booting this system have failed at checkpoint [SIGN]. A second attempt resulted in the same message only the SIGN word ended up being POKE. The rest of the message states that "For help resolving this problem please note this checkpoint & contact Dell Support.

We tried reboting to the BIOS (A01) and not it seems that the keyboard & mouse do not work. We tried another mouse & keyboard with no success.

Anyone have an idea what's going one here?
