I was away from home one day and when i came back i found that my pc was on but there was nothing displayed on the moniter. i tried to shut it down with the power button but it wouldn't shut down. the only way it will cut off is if i unplug it. when i plug it back in, the fans runs really loud and nothing displays on the moniter. anyone have idea whats going wrong and what should i do?
Hi, welcome to HTFC
There could be a few causes for this. The best place to start would be to try another 'known good' power supply unit, PSU for short, the Power or Wattage rating must be equal to or greater than the one that is in.
Also look out for poor caps (capacitors) that have become swollen or leaking gunge, they look like this Click this link
The PSU is a sensible thing to try because it does a lot of work and they do give problems, we really do need to eliminate this first of all before laying blame elsewhere.
I trust you tried disconnecting the main power for three or four minutes, sometimes spikes or interference on the mains can cause lock-ups, I know you said you disconnected the power but you didn't indicate if it was more than a couple of minutes or so.
