Hi everyone. I am having a weird problem with my CD-Rom. When I turn on my PC, my motherboard detects my CD-Rom, which is an Asus CD-Rom. But, after 10 to 15 minutes, my CD-Rom drive disappears from 'My Computer' and a dialog box pops up, which says, "CD-Rom has been unplugged", and my CD-Rom drive does not get the power. But, when I restart my PC, my motherboard again detects my CD-Rom drive, but again after 10 to 15 minutes of using the PC, the same dialog box again pops up, and the CD-Rom turns off.
Can anybody give me a solution to this problem ?
Hi and welcome to the forum, good to have you on board.
Loses identity after boot up, doing the basic things first is a good idea. Think I'd be tempted to try a new IDE lead or better still try another CD ROM in its place or you could try the CD ROM in another machine... we don't want red faces should it be something as simple as this, trying another IDE socket 'might' be another useful idea.
By doing this we are eliminating them from the problem, one thing might prove fruitful is to check the configuration pin at the back, like you would a hard drive to set it as Master, Slave or Cable select.
Also look in Device manager and see if you can see the CD ROM, if so click on the + sign in little square and it'll open a window where you can check the device and it's driver.
This I am assuming is the only problem, which order you do thing's is up to you.
Yeah. Either try a different ribbon cable, test another CD-ROM or test your CD-ROM on someone else's computer and see if it does the same thing. You could even put the CD-ROM on the same cable with your hard drive just to see if it'll pick it up and hold it, but only for testing purposes. You don't want to have a CD-ROM and Hard Drive on the same cable because it will KILL the data transfer if you go to copy something from a CD to the hard drive. It can't be a permanent solution. If the cd-rom works fine on the same ribbon with the hard drive, then you've narrowed it down to either the cable or the IDE port on the motherboard.
It's either the mobo port, cable, or drive. It shouldn't be any kind of conflict. Do you have just one optical (cd-rom) drive and is it on a cable by itself?
