I'm out of date with mobo technology and not being a 'gamer' so better let someone else answer..
... it would be of great help saying what you expect of the mobo. Would this be for general use, 'gaming', just as important is the cpu chip, are you expecting to be overclocking it, must it be a dual core etc. all these things are part of the equation I guess.
I'd sooner have a lower spec mobo if it's gonna be more reliable than a speedier type so I'd be asking about the reliability as well.
It would be for general use -- spreadsheets, word processing, internet, email, support a decent video card for watching TV. No gaming, no video editing/intensive graphic manipulations.
I don't have a chipset in mind. The Antec case that I want to reuse has a 300W power supply. So the power requirement of the MB, CPU and other accessories should be comfortably within the 300W.
The specs of the Antec Case are as follows:
* 3.0 Ghz compatible
* Antec Metallic Bronze color
* 300W SmartPower ATX12V power supply
- for AMD™ & Intel® systems
- SmartPower runs cooler and quieter
* 2 Front USB 2.0 ports with shielded cables
* Removable Side Panels
* Removable Drive Cages
* 8 Drive Bays:
- External: 4 x 5.25", 2x 3.5"
- Internal: 2 x 3.5"
* Cooling capacity: up to 2 80mm fans
- 1 rear (optional)
- 1 front (optional)
* Motherboard: Mini ITX, Micro ATX, or Standard ATX
