I have just put together my 1st build but when i turn it on all i get is a blank screen. The parts i purchased are as follows:
Galaxy Black Mid Tower Case with Blue Bubble Light LED Strip - 450W PSU
AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition 3.1GHz 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 Retail Boxed Processor
2 X Crucial 2GB DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Memory CL9 1.5 V Unbuffered Non-ECC
ASUS M4A785TD-M EVO 785G Socket AM3 DVI VGA HDMI Out 8 Channel Audio MATX Motherboard
I also have a 250gb sata HDD.
I put everything together then went to power on and nothing. I disconnected the hdd and dvd drive and same result, I also tried both memory sticks on there own in differnet slots. The CPU fan spins and a light on the mobo comes on, I tried to eject the dvd drive and the light came on but it wouldnt eject. I also removed the mobo from the case and put it back in again and made sure all the screws where in the right place, still nothing. Any help would be much appreciated.
First of all you need to ensure there aren't any metal lugs shorting underneath the mobo where the screws go, then ensure all the screw are fitted as some may be used for 'grounding' or earthing parts of the mobo.
You should get the bios to boot or Post as is properly known (Power On Self Test) with just the CPU, RAM, video card (on-board graphics in your case) and power supply fitted, if the bios is OK you should here the single start up bleep and be able to access the bios set up screen.
Note faulty USB devices can also cause a no bios boot.
Could I suggest trying to boot without the RAMs..... you should get a series of error bleeps, if you don't then we can assume that RAMs are not the problem and the fault lies elsewhere.... should you get the error bleep try inserting one stick of RAM at a time.
We do need to be absolutely sure the CPU is fitted correctly without any bent pins etc.
Not knowing the mobo, look out for any linking pins on the mobp or DIL switches that may select the clocking speeds are disable the bios.
There only other thing is make sure the items are compatible with the mobo, obviously this would just be the power unit, RAM and CPU since you are using on-board graphics.
I remember one computer where if the power became disconnected I had to switch the main power off switch back on and try to boot... sometimes this took three attempts - it was OK provided you left the power cord connected.
I don't know if this flow chart will help, just follow the yes and no's after navigating to the section that concerns your problem.
