GSA-H10A LG DVD/CD drive does not recognize blank CDs
Hi. I've found people with similar issues but the threads usually end
with no resolution (or "I went out and bought a new one") so I'm
giving this one last try.
At work, I have an LG drive (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10A) and my O/S is
Windows 2000. This drive is less than 2 years old, I believe, and I
can't recall if I have ever burned a CD or DVD with it -- I think I
haven't. It has no problem reading CDs/DVDs, but if I put in a blank
CD and double-click on my D: drive's icon, I get "Please insert a disk
into drive D:".
I have the latest driver (JUL05), the unit is currently set to be
MASTER, and it's alone on an IDE cable. I've also tried uninstalling/
reinstalling... nothing changes. And, before someone asks (like I've
seen in another thread), yes: I'm sure I have the CD the right way
up
Is there anything I can do to debug this? It shouldn't be old-age...
I haven't tried another drive in my PC, yet, but I suppose that could
be the next attempt.

If you are using a blank, to be burned CD, then there is
no file (or file structure) for Windows to read. After
you insert the media, you need to burn it. Do you have
software to burn such as Nero or Roxio?

Yes, I do.
Roxio's error message: "Easy CD Creator has detected that there were
errors during the recording, or that there are errors on your new CD."
And Nero... well, what do you know: Nero worked. Now, I remember: I
was hung up on trying to get the burn to work with Roxio because of a
specific situation I was in where it's important to be able to select
the ISO9660 File System (i.e. not Joliet), and I haven't yet figured
out how to specify this in Nero Essentials.
Anyway, thanks for making me double-check with Nero.

Chris,
It sounds like when you used Roxio, you had it verify after burning
(which is a good thing to do). During the verification process it
found errors. This could be due to bad media or incompatibility with
Drive/Media. It would be a good thing to do with Nero too.
