Just burned a compilation CD onto a CDRW - just like I have done many times
before using Nero on XP pro. All went well.
Popped the disk back in and selected play in Windows media player. WMP
recognized the disk but clicked through each track and refused to play. No
error messages - just didn't play. So I closed it down. I then selected to
play it through Itunes where it behaved in a similar manner.
Took the disk out and played it on my home hi-fi DVD player where it played
fine.
Then put it into my laptop XP media centre where WMP played it fine.
Any suggestions appreciated. I have googled but selecting search words has
not been easy.

First thing I would do is try it again a few times to make sure this is not
an anomaly - maybe try different media, CDR rather than RW.
Can your computer play earlier compilations you have made? I think there is
a different laser for burning vs. reading, so possibly drive could burn O.K.
but read poorly.

Ah - the vagaries of erasable media!
Each erase cycle reduces the difference between a 'one' and a 'zero'.
When that means that a given player has problems working with the TOC,
symptoms such as yours can emerge.
Overall, particularly at current prices, erasable discs make little
sense except for test purposes - and even there not much.

No, but you need to be leaned up against a wall before you get your *** kicked

Yes all is as you state it should be.
Since posting the original message I have tried the disk again and all is
ok. It plays as it should and is recognized in both my drives - Plextor and
pioneer.
I have rebooted the system between so I am putting it down to one of those
things!
