About six months ago I built an Intel Core 2 Duo Vista system with a
LiteOn LH-20A1H1 DVD Writer and purchased a full version of Nero 7 Ultra
Edition Enhanced. I've burn numerous CDR's, both data and music,
without problems.
Recently I purchased a 30 pack spindle of TDK LightScribe DVD+R 16x
4.7GB, to back-up documents and check out the LiteOn's LightScribe
feature. However, I cannot successfully burn a DVD data disk? Nero
gets to anywhere between 50% and 80% through the burn process and errors
out with "Burn process failed at 16x (22,160 KB/s)". I tried burning at
a lower speeds and get the same error.
Any help, thoughts, and/or suggestions would be appreciated?

I know it sounds a pain but best thing first would be to test with
some other discs. I wouldn't worry about the lightscribe thing for the
test, you're only interested in knowing if it may be a compatibility
issue between those discs and your drive, so it would be better if you
could just 'borrow' one or two.

Thanks Paul, I just noticed your reply. Do you recommend another brand
for backing-up data? Is there any difference between CDR+ or CDR-, for
this purpose?

I assume you mean DVD? rather than CDR?
I think nowadays it's a personal taste thing between the formats.
speed etc seems to be about the same. All you need to do is look in
your drive's manual, if you still have it to ensure you get the most
compatible discs. personally I use the DVD-R but it's just what I am
used to.
I don't know what country you're in so I can't exactly point you to a
suitable place to purchase from. Of course if you have a local
computer shop or so you can just root around and find something
totally different than those you already have, but just buy a small
pack to make sure you're not throwing your money away.
Taiyo Yuden come highly recommended but are also expensive.

I just did a test data burn using nero 7 on my external LG drive using
16x DVD-R for a full disc took about seven or eight minutes from start
to finish, no fancy stuff, just straight selection and burning at full
speed. I don't usually multitask when burning discs, I know some
people do but I've always liked to play safe. Hopefully with different
discs you'll be popping in to say your next burn was successful :O)

I second Paul's recommendation of trying other media. Any standard brand
should do. Use +R or -R as you intend to do in the future. In the U.S.,
-R seems to be preferred for single-layer discs.
If you succeed or get a different error on the other discs, you know
your problem is media related and therefore will have to locate a line
(and a writing speed) that work for you. In any event, please get back
to us with your results.

First off, thanks to everyone for replying. Here's a follow-up on my
burning problem. I purchased a ten pack of Memorex DVD-R 16x media and
I experienced the same "Burn Process Failed" error halfway through the
burn. Shoot, another 95 cent coaster!
Enough is enough. Next, I decided to reinstall Nero, figuring something
must be ******* up here. I opened 'Programs & Features' in Vista to
uninstall Nero and noticed two (2) icons for Nero 7 Ultra Addition? I
ran both uninstall routine's then downloaded and ran Nero's Clean Tool.
After that I rebooted and installed the latest Nero 7.10.1.2.
This did the trick! I retried burning data disks using both the TDK
DVD+R LightScribe media and the new Memorex DVD-R media. Both finished
successfully without error!
I'm not sure what happened or why I had two Nero uninstall routines in
'Programs & Features' when there was only one installation of Nero under
C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero7? All I can think of is something may have
happened during a program update, or something??
Anyway, everything seems to working OK. Now I can see if I can find out
how this LightScribe feature works ) Anyone know how? I did not
locate an area in Nero to accomplish this.
