Default Vista and AIW 9800

I am running Vista with an ATI Radeon 9800. I have installed the latest driver
from ATI and uninstalled it and reinstalled it every way possible. Vista says
the driver is correct but the driver will not recognize my 9800. I get a
message that no card is installed. Does Anyone have any ideas as to what I am
doing wrong?

Thanks

Freeman

The AIW cards are multiple device. So you can both have a driver
installed for some of the "devices" on the cards (e.g. the actual video
card), and not have a driver for other devices (for example the tuner).
As far as I know, at this time, there are Vista drivers for the video
card but there are not Vista drivers for the other functions on the card
(including the tuner).

Thanks for the reply. I do understand about the tuner and other devices not
working, but for me, the basic video card drivers are not working. The Control
Center will not execute and I cannot make adjustments to the settings like I
could under XP. I thought there might be some trick to get the basic driver
set to work.

Hi, Freeman.

The tuner and other MMC features on my AIW 9600 never worked with the 64-bit
WinXP x64, or with either 32-bit or 64-bit Vista, in spite of a couple of
years' worth of promises from ATI. I never had a 9800.

But the basic graphics card functions worked fine in Vista using nothing but
the drivers that Vista Setup installed. I've not had to download or install
any Vista drivers from ATI.

I haven't tried to use the ATI Control Center in Vista because I haven't
needed it. What would it do for me that I can't do by right-clicking
Vista's desktop and selecting Personalize?

My new mobo has PCI-Express and no AGP slots, so I've replaced the 9600 with
an X1600 Pro (not AIW). Again, when Vista Setup finished, my graphics card
was fully installed and working. It works fine in Vista Ultimate's Media
Center, too, with add-on tuners; my reception is not too good, but that's a
different story.
