Ok well I have looked around the settings more...
I'm not sure if it is using EDID because it is saying my monitor's max
res is 1600X1200 which is wrong as it is 1680x1050 (this caused me no
end of trouble when I first got the monitor).
Under CCC there is no mention of DDC as far as I can see.
Under Omega it says there is no DDC and my TFT is really a CRT.
I have my monitor connected using a vga cable with a DVI adaptor on
the PC end....

Ever tried the monitor drivers from Samsung's web site?

Back in 2004, there was a fiasco with the Samsung 191T, where the monitor's
EDID info when connected via DVI, was erroneously programmed by Samsung to
show an analog monitor. It is possible your 226BW is afflicted with the same
problem.
However, there are few utilities that will read/write the EDID of a monitor
connected via DVI. Dell has a utility, but it only runs on nVidia cards. Do
you or any of your friends have an nVidia card?

As long as the first and last letters of each word, and the length of each
word, are correct, the human mind will interpolate the rest. This works for
about 55% of the people. :-)

Yeah I have done this...however this is the stupid part. Once I have
done it I then "update" the driver and let Windows do it for me it
actually removes the Samsung driver and chucks in a bog-standard
Windows one!

Yeah I have heard of this but to be honest right now my Monitor is
about to be swapped out for a replacement. Right now I'm just asking
questions incase the new Monitor acts the same way. I really hope this
monitor is actually broken...I'd hate to have to sort out a
driver/hardware conflict (

He means he is using the VGA cable now, after finding that a DVI connection
doesn't work.
