Default HD 2400 Pro AGP Hardware Acceleration

I just got a Sapphire HD 2400 Pro AGP and I can't seem to get hardware
acceleration to work while playing High Definition TS files. Have any
of the newest Catalyst releases fixed this problem?

In the meantime I have gone back to my good ole AIW 9600XT.

The 8.4 hotfix allegedly does so. I can't say for sure because I finally
ditched my card (one of two ATI CARDS I have, the other's an HD 2400Pro
PCIe) after the 8.3 Hotfix was supposed to. I tried for over 6 months to get
drivers past the 7.5's to work in 3D on my card. Even RMA'd the card at one
point. Every single version of the Cat's past 7.5 or 7.6 failed the DXDiag
test and generated the typical error message on install. I must have wasted
6 hours in total over those six months. 4 of those six was the first time I
updated the drivers and a driver rollback failed. Driver cleaners and manual
uninstall and registry scouring failed to fix. So did all the other tricks
and tips from the various forums. This was on a new system build and I'd yet
to image the drive...that was going to be the next step after getting all
drivers up to date. Required a wipe & reinstall of XP Pro and all apps
eventually, and I've had a low opinion of ATI's driver builds ever since. If
you're actively selling new AGP cards, it's not unreasonable for your
customers to get drivers that work from your site. Or, here's an idea, maybe
release 2 versions of the Catalysts....one for AGP and the other for PCIe.
..8 releases in a row and no 3D for many people? Shame...

Enable AGP Fast Writes in BIOS, then make sure it is shown as enabled in the
SmartGART tab in the ATi control panel. (You may have to manual force it,
then disable the ATISmart service, to prevent it from reverting back to
automatic settings on the next boot.)

I finally got it to work using the driver from 04/22/08 on the
Sapphire web driver page AND by using the following reg tweak:
