after I did that it worked great on my 4870, but I decided to go back
to default profile and delete that one and now the default is set to
the manual setting and my fan runs at 50% all the time witch is ok
cause it runs at 50C now instead of 75 to 80

After a bit of checking, it seems that the profile, after activated,
would be loaded automatically during CCC startup. So, case closed.

Is there anything that will set the fan to a higher speed before a
user has logged in? (I use XPpro).

In the CCC Profiles Manager, select your new speed profile you made, then
down the page select "Activation" option, highlight and check "Desktop
shortcut". Save the profile. (reopen the profile and be sure all is OK on
the fanspeed changes - I had to re-enter the desired speed [33% for me] and
manual settings again.) This will place an Icon on the desktop for your new
speed profile. You can do this with as many profiles you want and have them
all a click away on the desktop for you to use as you please.

Open Windows Explorer, go to: C: - Documents and Settings - All Users -
Start Menu - Programs - Startup. Drag the new CCC speed profile icon on the
desktop to the Startup directory in Windows Explorer. From now on, the
speed profile will start when the computer starts.

Mod it at hardware level? Careful with V and I if you really wanna do it.

.... Is more reliable than using software solution. But the fan connector
of 4850 is a bit weird... not just 2 pins.
