Default does any version of MMC work???

running an AIW 2006 PCI-E on Windows XP SP2

Grrrr
Is there any combination of Catalyst and MMC drivers that actually
work?

I've uninstalled and reinstalled so many times I could puke...
(ran the AtiCimUn.exe uninstaller, ran Driver Cleaner Pro, and even
did the ol' hunt-n-peck through the registry to make sure all traces
of ATI-whatever were gone. rebooted ad nauseum)

Specifically, everytime I try and use the TV tuner, I get the same
"Unable to initialize" error - which is no help at all...

I've tried god-knows-how-many combinations going back to Catalyst 5.4
& MMC 9.03 - no luck

For whatever reason, I cant seem to get rid of the ATI T200 Unified
AVStream Driver and revert back to the old WDM's - how is that
accomplished?? Is that the problem?

Possibly. The T200 driver rendered my AIW useless. However, mine is 9600XT
AGP so I don't know how much of my experience is applicable to your
situation.

I use Catalyst 6.2 with MMC 9.06 (I also had good luck with 9.08 but decided
to go with this one after my latest reinstall.) I have the WDMs apearing in
my Device Manager, with (thankfully) no sign of the T200. The T200 starts
showing up with Cat 6.3.

I don't know why you're seeing it with drivers as old as 5.4.

Before uninstalling all the ATI software you should boot in safe mode and
remove all ATI-related devices fron Device Manager. Also make sure you have
no "ghost" devices (for which the drivers are installed but do not show up
because Windows think's they're not connected). See the MS article on how to
do this :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315539

Good luck.

According to this Driverheaven forum thread, apparently you need to install
the AVIVO suite for the TV tuner to work (don't ask me why).
http://www.driverheaven.net/all-wond...te-here-3.html

The AVIVO suite can be downloaded here:
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...adeonxavivo-xp

Note you need Catalyst 8.1 to use the above download. So install Catalyst
8.1 and MMC 9.16.

FYI. T200 Unified AVStream Driver *is* the WDM driver. T200 = Theater 200,
which is the VIVO chip mounted on the AIW 2006 PCIe. The "unified" moniker
denotes a merger of previous components like WDM Rage Theater Audio, WDM
Rage Theater Video, WDM TV Audio Crossbar, etc. You will see a single T200
entry in Device Manager in place of 5-6 WDM entries. Click on the release
notes for the WDM driver for more details:
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...iwradeonxip-xp

wow, that was the worst install yet....
after spending another whole day screwing around, looking for files,
deleting and reinstalling ATI crap, the MMC was totally hosed after
following the instructions I found here. - Modules I didn't want (DVD,
File Player, etc) were installed anyway, even though I specifically
said not to. All I wanted was TV and FM. Once installed, the
Configuration tool contained entries for modules that were NOT
installed, yet TV and FM were not to be found anywhere (Why am I not
surprised?) - naturally, clicking on either the TV or FM icons in the
program group did nothing. <sigh>

...and of course I wound up with that stupid white square in the upper
left corner I've heard about. who writes this software, a buncha
drug-impaired monkeys?

Don't get me wrong, I'm certainly not blaming anyone, anyone other
than ATI that is...

you know, it feels like I've been to dozens of sites over the last
year trying to get a handle on this problem, and all of them have
similar advise - usually a series of specific files, and an
unbelievebly stupid series of specific steps that have to be followed
in order to make it all work. and in all those pages, none of them
agree - everybody has their own convaluted way pf patching together
what works for them - it's as if you have to belong to an insider's
club and know the secret handshake.

what's really funny is, I can just go download AmCap (one 237KB file
<< that's KB!!) from http://www.noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=video#AMCap
, install that, and in about 2 minutes I have a working TV tuner,
complete with a customizable channel guide, resizable windows and
working recording functions, and IT WORKS.

what's wrong with this picture?
or rather, WTF is wrong with ATI?

what garbage... never again.

The secret handshake, at least with an AGP AIW, is to go to
http://ati.com/install do everything exactly as it says. I've used every
version from 9.01 to 9.16. Never had an install issue this couldn't fix.
Unfortunately the first install doesn't always work. The method of install
is way more complicated than it should be.Where most fail is not getting all
steps done and in the proper order. I had to make a check list to make sure
everything got done correctly. IIRC 13 steps for AIW&HDTV Wonder for 9.16.

If you had an AGP card like my AIW9600XT would suggest 9.06 and Cat6.1.
Thought 6.3 was the first version for the Unified driver too but memory
isn't that great. May also be that your not getting things clean.

Since you have a newer card I wouldn't use a release older than what came
with the card. Do full installs until it's working then if you want to
remove, do a Modify install. Very easy. Make sure you have the latest M/B
chipset drivers and run dxdiag. Work on MMC. I usually try a couple of
Repair installs before starting completely over. AmCap working should mean
the drivers are installed correctly but wouldn't bet on it.

Good Luck.

done all that - more times than I can remember - for nearly a year
now. it worked for a while a year ago, but not since.
one thing I DO know, any instructions found on ATI's site are
useless...

Or ATI's drivers suck so much that they may work or not depending on:
- which ATI card you have
- which version of said card you have
- what motherboard chipset you have
- what other ATI software you have installed currently
- what other ATI software you had installed previously
- what 3rd party software you have installed currently
- what brand of shampoo you use
- how many vowels your middle name has

Ugh, that was unfortunate. Sorry for putting you through this. Never bother
with Driverheaven posts again... Good to see you had found a better app,
though.

That's Sir RenderMonkey (tm) to you... Seriously, though, notice how nVidia
doesn't make this kind of combo graphics cards with tuner/capture
capabilities. The nVidia product planners probably thought version-matching
all the multimedia software (which progresses at a slower pace than the core
graphics drivers) wasn't worth the headaches.
