Recently having been given an crossfire capable board and having a X1950 Pro
waiting to be put into it I was wondering adding an second X1950 in the
future would be beneficial or is crossfire only worth it at very high
resolutions. (Income tax refund is coming up here in Canada). I can
foresee my current 1280x1024 LCD being used until next Christmas possibly
being replaced with a 22" Widescreen at 1680 x 1050 or something close.
I have two X1900XTs (each about 25-30% faster than an X1950 Pro). With
Crossfire, I saw framerate gains of about 80% in Oblivion at 1024x768, which
then made 4xAA a usable setting. With older games I see little improvement
with two cards.
Why don't you assemble the system with a single card and try your favorite
games? If they run too slowly, then add a second card.

yes that is what I plan to do, just curious to hear opinions,. The
spectare of DX10 also hangs heavy and I may want to upgrade to that around
Christmas assuming prices become reasonable (I use Vista Ultimate),.
Games:
Call of Duty 2
FSX (MS Flight sim 10, goddamm slow under XL800, uninstalled)
Medal Of Honor Pacific Assault - almost finished
Need for Speed Carbon
Coming:
Test Drive Unlimited
Stalker
Might Try:
Painkiller - newer versions

The spectre of DX10 won't make itself visible for a while, since neither the
DX10 runtime nor DX10 games are available. (At which point the spectre of
DX10.1 will be less than a year away, according to Microsoft's WinHEC
presentation.)
That said, what's keeping you from selling your X1950 Pro and picking up a
320 MB 8800GTS? It is on Newegg for $270. :-) A good value even without
considering the DX10 features. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133193

I bought the 1950 on ebay here in Canada for $235CDN here in Canada. (
Not a bad deal, Future Shop was selling for $349 cdn but just after I bought
had a sale for $249.)
Guessing I will keep the 1950 until Christmas, then upgrade my motherboard,
cpu and graphics card for DX10 and add a widescreen LCD about 21-22".
Now if I can just get my molex to 6 pin adapter for the ATI card. What a
pain, it should of been included in the box

Yeah, it's one of those things (similar to buying a hard drive and finding
no included cable). When I got my first X1900, I instinctively bought this
patch cord because I didn't like clutter of the standard splitter cable.
Saved me a lot of hassle: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=17110
