ATI knows that Their AIW cards and MMC software is buggy and they
don't work. They are talking about refund money if your cards
doesn't work. Even if it's something many years old. Because
they know many of their cards don't work. They are talking about
being an honest manufacturer and refund money to everyone who
suffered because of their broken cards.

Perhaps the conversation went like this:
OP: (to ATI exec with the misfortune to be stuck next to him on a long
flight)
So you work for ATI? Have you ever thought about buying back your
broken video boards?
ATI EXEC, to ATI EXEC #2: Hey, whaddya think about that?
ATI EXEC #2: Are you NUTS?!?!?!
So they talked about it.
