Default Recommend a Power Supply?

I'm building a mostly new system. ASUS P5E, Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz, a moderately
powerful single graphics card (I very rarely play video games), 2GB DDR2
RAM, floppy drive, DVD burner, 2 SATA 7200 RPM harddrives.

My priorities are stability (so I won't be overclocking) and *very* quiet
operation.

I'm thinking 500 watts should be plenty.

Can someone recommend a favorite power supply in the 500 watt range that
runs whisper quiet?

Thanks!
Bruce.

Bruce:

On my last build one of my goals was to put together a super-quiet efficient
system. I purchased an Antec Sonata case and replaced the psu with an Antec
Neohe 500, a 500 wt psu. I also replaced the fans with multiple speed fans
so I could adjust the air volume through the case while maintaining minimal
noise. The Neohe 500 is a high efficient psu, quiet, and modular in
assembly. This keeps the unused leads out of the way for air flow.

I can hear the fan spin up on the gpu when playing games, other than that, I
hardly hear a sound.

Do you want modular cables on the PS?
Is the box on 24/7
FWIW, I have had good experience with Corsair HX power supplies. 120mm fan
that is not audible (to me, anyway). I assume their other models are equally
quiet.

Go here http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp and calculate
how many watts you need then double what you need. A power supply with a
higher wattage is more efficient when it is using only half it's power.

Thanks for the recommedation. I just found this web site which has been
very helpful:

http://www.techreport.com/articles.x/13271

I'm currently leaning towards the Corsair HX 620W. I love the idea of
modular cables and it mentions having a large temperature controlled fan.

Thanks. It recommended in the neighborhood of 600 watts.

I have always preferred PC Power & Cooling PSUs mainly because I just never
have problems with them. I have three in systems here and many more that are
out there still running in systems built for others.
