My computer built on a P5B Deluxe has three HDDs and one DVD drive.
All are IDE drives as they were from the previous computer. I had one
HDD and the optical drive attached to a Promise PCI IDE controller
card. It all worked fine until a few days ago when the PCI connected
drives were no longer accessable. I attached them to the on board IDE
channels and they worked fine. I reinstalled the Promise drivers and
still nothing so I got another PCI controller card, a SIIG brand. It
also doesn't work. I'm thinking that there is something going on with
the P5B.
I'll replace the IDE HDDs with SATA drives eventually but I'd rather
not right now. Is this a known issue? I tried to go to the Promise
site but it's 404. Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you rule out the actual PCI slot maybe?
Be careful with the siig card & attaching a harddrive, it will confuse
your system as far as harddrive order & may not boot the OS.

Thank you.
Yes, I did try other slots and neither card worked in them either.
Also, you're right about the boot order. I did have to restart a
couple times when I went to the configuration I'm going to use until I
get a solution.
