I just replaced my old motherboard with a brand new P5E and the motherboard
temperature concerns me a bit.
The CPU monitor says the CPU is about 115-125 F while not very busy, which
seems in the range for normal.
But the MB probe says 105-110 which is higher than I'm used to seeing for a
MB temperature. Does anyone know exactly what the P5E MB probe is
measuring? Air temperature, Southbridge, etc.?
My full sized tower has a total of 5 fans moving air through it so it
doesn't make sense to me that the MB would be that hot. It feels barely
warm to the touch. The metal chassis is cool.

I have the P5E and my temps are running about 15-25 F cooler than what you
report. I, also, have a full tower with 3x 120m Antec tricools set at
medium and a stock cpu cooler (E8400).
Install Speedfan and you'll get more accurate readings plus you'll to see
what chips are being monitored.

Thanks, but I can't make heads or tails out of some of what SpeedFan is
showing. Some of the temperatures shown are negative which seems
impossible. Some of the postive ones are:
System: 113 F
CPU: 111 F
HD0: 117 F
HD1: 118 F
Core 0: 117 F
Core 1: 124 F
NVidia Core: 165 F
NVidia Ambient: 144F
None of this is making any sense. The cabinet is cold to the touch. The
fan is exhausting cool air.

FYI, I have a Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz E8400 too.
SpeedFan showed crazy temperatures for my GeForce 8800 GT, or so I thought.
This page says the temperatures I'm seeing for the GPU are entirely normal.

One suggestion I have is to please use C rather than F when posting temps.
It is the standard, even in the US, that we use when giving temps. While
your MB temps are on the high side, they should not be a problem. Much
depends on your room temps. The higher the room temp, the higher the ambient
case temps and therefore higher MB, CPU and GPU temps. I run two 8800 GTX
cards in SLI and they run slightly cooler (80C-85C) but still very hot. That
is the nature of the 8800 series, they do run rather warm.

I already have the AC running and the room temperature is about 70-72 F (
21-22 C). The PC cabinet is cold to the touch. The 8800 can't be touched
for more than a few seconds.

Says the 8800 GT cards normally run at insane temperatures. I've never
encountered these kinds of temperatures in electronics before. It can't
help but shorten product lifetime.

I have been running my 8800 GTXs since Mar of last year and they are still
going strong. I added an extra 120mm fan to blow air across the two cards
and that is what helps to keep their temps down to the hot temps they are
now......:-). I am sure the temps will shorten the life of them, but the
normal time I keep video cards is a good bit shorter than they will last I
am sure.

I'm tempted to get a 12" circular saw and cut a hole in the side and place a
box fan there. The 8000GT has turned my computer in to a space heater.

I have a sharkoon Rebel 12 Value case, with the 250mm size fan, it is
pretty quiet and slow turning, but does an excellent job as a cool
machine (8x SATA drives + Q9450 CPU)
