Once again exploring the possibilities of building a new PC.
This time around I am slightly overwhelmed by the variables.
This will be a gaming rig, but I dont overclock and don't need too
many bells and whistles.
At the price point (<$200) i am currently playing with i am running
into a snag.
I cant seem to find a board that offers both 2X PCI-E 2.0 X16, X16 and
Memory Standard speeds over DDR2 800.
Which is the smarter sacrifice for the long haul?
Not even sure if this is a stupid question or not.
Cheers
PS Because of the seeming hit/miss nature of motherboards I prefer to
buy them locally and pay a bit more than i would at newegg et al. This
is my shop of choice in the Seattle area http://www.hdnw.com Unless I
find a better local shop I am limited to their stock. http://www.hdnw.com/catalog.aspx?cid=164

Wherever you buy is your choice, but check out Newegg for specs and price.
I'm using a P5E (Newegg - $224) which has the specs you mentioned though for
DDR2 1066 you have entered the timings manually. Also, there are a few
other boards that meet your specs.
It's only a stupid question if you ask it twice :-)
I'm using a M3A32-MVP with a Phenom 9500, and two ATI 3870s. It supposts
DDR2 1600, but it does not seem to be stable at those speeds, so I run it at
800. However, the board is a tad over $200.
I have learned through painfull experience to avoid the mom and pop shops.
I've been buying from zipzoomfly.com for quite a few years, and have been
very happy with them.
