Does a floppy boot disk with DVD drivers exist? I have a friend who
wanted to install Win ME on a blank HD with a DVD drive,(no CD
drive),all he had was a boot floppy with CD drivers. I loaned him a CD
drive to make the install, but got to wondering if a there was a
floppy boot disk with a program for booting with drivers for a DVD
drive.

yes..
You can get IDE/SCSI DVD/CD drivers.. I think that the win98 system files
and above would actually load a IDE Dvd/Cd drive without much trouble.
You can also get similar dos versions that allow networking support, so
you could install off of a share or even the internet (some *nix allow
install over the net)

I don't think there's a difference between CD and DVD, these days they
are simply ATAPI or SATA devices. I recently used a FreeDOS boot
floppy image to upgrade BIOS on my HTPC. It accessed the DVD contents
fine. The boot disk was actually an image included on the "Ultimate
BootCD" available from http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/. You can boot
various floppy images and such from the CD's boot menu.

I don't need a bootdisk for ME, I need a boot disk with DVD drivers so
once booted I can access the DVD drive. I have a boatload of bootdisk
that will provide drivers for CD drives, but the problem I was
refering to was how to load ME on a blank HD, with a only a DVD drive,
no CD drive. The installation ME disk is not bootable. We could not
come up with a bootdisk to load drivers for the DVD drive. Finally
installed a CD drive and loaded ME, then removed the CD drive. Thanks
for the offer though,appreciate it.

Unless I'm missing something, why not load the ME CD in the DVD drive, copy
the ME CD to an image file with, for example, NERO and then write the CD
image to a blank DVD?
