Few days ago I purchased a P5Q Pro motheboard. This comes with a disk based
installation of Express Gate, which is meant to enable the user to get
access to a browser, email, chat and Skype, before booting into Windows.
Asus apparently have this software on several motherboards and laptops.
I did the installtion as set out in the manual, but all I can get to happen
is that the main Express Gate menu comes up with the various applications.
If I select an application (say, Web), I do get the language and time
configuration screens for first time users, but then - nothing. The screen
goes blank, with the backlight on. I have to do a cold reboot.
Express Gate is produced by Splashtop. I could not find any detailed
information on the operation of this Linux based programme on their site. I
believe it at least starts in BIOS, but have no idea where the main part is
meant to be. Any information or help is appreciated.

That's where I understood it to be, but the Asus Installation Disk has it,
and directs the installation to Drive C.

Yes, they have two versions of Express Gate for the P5Q boards.
"Express Gate" is installed on the hard disk, "Express Gate SSD" is in
flash. SSD version is on the more expensive models, like P5Q Deluxe.
Of course, since it needs to have that flash storage. BIOS is still
typically a 2 MB chip or something like that, not much chance of
fitting Linux and applications there...
As for the problem, I doubt you can do much to debug it yourself. As I
understand it, Express Gate is virtualized Linux inside some other,
unknown and undocumnented proprietary OS. Take it back, in other
words.
