Yes I use that board with a couple of hard disk drives and an optical drive
on the SATA ports.

Thanks Fred
Another question...the Supreme FX II HD attachment card, I can't find any
documentation on the two connectors on this card..
Will I be happy the sound quality of this card? New build..mostly gaming
rig

The green connector will have the standard pinout of an Intel audio header.
You use that, if you want to connect front panel microphone and headphone
jacks.
This document shows the standard for the pinout. Figure 6 on page 25,
shows an HDaudio wiring setup for the header. Many computer cases don't
have the floating side-contact switches, and so the three sense and
PRESENCE# pins are not hooked up by the user. The important signals
are the two (stereo) port connections and the ground signal, a total of
five pins. If you flip to Figure 2 on page 20, you can see the conventional
names for the pins. 1=MIC, 3=MIC_BIAS or MIC_PWR, 5=HEADPHONE_RIGHT,
9=HEADPHONE_LEFT, 2=AUDIO_GROUND. The missing pin, the keying pin, is
in position 8, and should help you determine where pin 1 is.
The convention for the front panel jacks themselves is -
Microphone jack -
TIP = MIC
RING = MIC_BIAS
SLEEVE = GROUND
Headphone jack
TIP = LEFT
RING = RIGHT
SLEEVE = GROUND
If your computer case has "return" wires coming from the headphone jack,
those don't need to be hooked up, and should be left dangling. Since the
hardware is HDaudio, it has no use for the return signals. On older
AC'97 motherboards, the return signals go back to driving the green connector
on the back of the computer. But on HDaudio, they stopped doing that.
So, to use the green connector, you generally hook up five wires from the
front panel audio cable assembly. Many Asus HDaudio motherboard manuals
will have that pinout information as well (i.e. motherboards without
Supreme FX or FX II).

Yeah, I must admit I was thrown at first by the lack of documentation in
the manual for the audio card.
Good thing the connectors are identified by printing on the audio card
itself. Front panel audio connectors are pretty standard and audio connector
for CDRom, well I haven't used one of those for years.

I can't see why not. The audio card falls under the ROG (Republic of Gamers)
banner.
It's supposedly designed to offer a better signal to noise ratio than
onboard sound.
Mine sounds alright.
