A8N-E chipset fan failure -- what a pain to report it!
My A8N-E ver. 2.00 motherboard's chipset fan keeps failing (Is that
already the "improved" one?), and I decided to report it in case they
would send me a replacement under warranty (the board is just over 2
years old, and I understand that the warranty is 3 years).
What a pain! They insist that I have to provide details of video card
and memory vendors, BIOS revision, video card driver version, etc.,
etc., none of which has anything to do with the performance of their
crappy fan.
I've read the earlier messages about alternatives. It's a pity that none
of the local stores carries them: s&h is more than the cost of the item
in many places, so I hope Asus sends one for free.

I have a reply from Asus already with the phone number and email address
of the RMA dept. I hope that doesn't mean that I actually have to send
the board in and wait for a replacement -- or maybe they will
cross-ship? Anybody know how they handle these situations?

Well I called the phone number, they connected me to a tech guy. I told
him I got an email telling me to call this number so I can get a
replacement chipset hs/fan, he said no problem and asked for the model
#, serial #. Took my info, about 4-5 days later I had a brand new HS/Fan
in the mailbox.
btw, I cut the pins on the old HS instead of removing the board to
release them, pushed what plastic was left through the holes, cleaned it
all up and popped in the new one. Good as new!
Original fan lasted 2.6 years, not too bad i guess?

Since the phone number was not toll-free, I used the email address that
tech support told me, only to get a message back that the email address
was no longer in use and that I should fill out a Web form, which was
quite straightforward. Nothing but the automated response so far, but I
provided name and address, so maybe I'll just get a new fan in the mail
or by UPS.

Good Luck, I got my fan is good time but my friend never even got his so
he got so sick of the noise that we put the Zalman blue tower on it
along with an Antec gooseneck fan to cool it.
