I've been handed an Acer Aspire E360 desktop that should have Media
Center on it but is missing the c:\windows\system32\hal.dll file. The
recovery partition (<ALT> + F10) refuses to run also.
I ordered the 6 cd Recovery Disk set from Acer to try and roll this
system back to factory.
When I boot from the System Disk it asks for a language and then to
insert the:
(RCD[Backup Disc DVD1/CD2])
into the optical drive. After inserting and clicking on OK it runs for a
few seconds and ejects the disk then shows the exact same prompt. It
just loops on this. If I insert any other disk it complains about a
missing file and I have to reboot.
How do I get this system to reload Media Center from Acer's disks?
If that one file is really all that is wrong, Windows should be able to
repair it from a command line in Windows. No need for restore disks and all
that.
Right click the command prompt menu item or icon and run as administrator.
Then in the prompt window type
sfc /scannow
Windows will check all of it's files for integrity and repair or replace any
missing files. It will run for awhile, and then all will be well. If, that's
all you need.
There is a lot of data available on this on Google.
Have a good day.

That one file (hal.dll) prevents the system from booting to a command
line. Normal or Safe mode.

Looked at the site. It had the drivers, bios and manual. But the manual
is in German and I shouldn't need the rest since I am using the recovery
CDs that is supposed to put the entire system back to factory original.
I just need to find out how to convince the system to process CD2 and
proceed to the others.
