Default HDMI cards for Win98 computer

Subject line is the issue. Are there any HDMI cards out there for a
Win98SE system. I've looked online and while there is a fair amount of
info on various cards, I have not seen if the cards will work with that
OS. It's got 1.5 gig of RAM and it's also an 800mhz box.

Yes, I know you can get a low-end desktop for pretty cheap, but by the
time you add in extra RAM and the HDMI card, it's not so cheap any more.

As always, comments and suggestions welcomed.

What are you trying to accomplish? I haven't seen anything but PCIe
HDMI cards, which would not work. I can't think of many applications
that would use HDMI that would run on that box.

Tom--

I'm glad you chimed in as you seem to be the AV guru on this group.

What I'm trying to accomplish is to use a 37" LCD TV as the monitor.
I've hooked up a VGA cable to the TV and a computer (not the same
computer as mentioned above) and the resolution is less than optimal.

The TV does have HDMI inputs so I'm thinking that if I could hook up an
older desktop with an HDMI card, I'd get a better picture. I could then
also use the computer to play DVDs with the TV as the monitor.

Thanks.

I love surfing the web on a big screen TV. And add a wireless keyboard
and mouse, it is heaven. Beats using a laptop. Although S-Video isn't
the greatest, which is all I have used with two computers to date.

Hi Bill, do you have a wireless keyboard with mouse built into it? If
not, how do you control the mouse remotely?

If you know of a better one please post what it is. Thanks.

Oh I like that one. How does the keyboard feel? What kind of batteries
does it take? If it takes AA or AAA, ever try rechargables in it? Some
devices doesn't like rechargables as the voltage is a bit lower.

I like it. It takes 4 AAA's and they last a long time. I haven't
tried rechargeables but I always get the best rechargeables anyway so
your mileage would vary on that.

The keyboard puts itself to sleep. Many people don't realize that and
they think that it's a defect when it doesn't register a keystroke.
That's because after a certain period of time the first keystroke just
turns it back on.

It's plug and play and I've used it with various Dell laptops, XP,
Vista, and with the Apple MacBook. The scroll feature works as you'd
expect.

The keyboard quality is average -- a little clanky, esp. the space
key, but still very acceptable.

The max range I've tried it at is about 15 feet. Rather than run a
long VGA cable from my TV to my laptop, I can put my laptop next to
the TV, use the TV as a monitor, and access it remotely via the
wireless keyboard.

I recommend reading through the reviews on Amazon before purchase, and
if you'd like me to try anything with mine (such as find the max.
range) I can do that.
