I have a Dimension 9200 & my OS is WinXP (media center edition) SP3
I needed to restore my pc however the Dell PC Restore by Symantic could not
be accessed using ctrl & F11 so I formatted my hard drive & reinstalled
from the XP CD. I have also installed the drivers from the Dell drivers &
Utilities CD.
On rebooting the new hardware wizard found the following:
Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Video Controller
SM Bus Controller
Video Controller
Video Controller (VGA compatible)
and
IDT High Definition Audio Codec.
A search of my pc & the internet failed to find the necessary files to
install so that the above works.
In device maager all these items are listed as not installed.
Can any kind person please advise me what I need to do please?
to try to fix your restore partition. Hopefully you didn't repartition
your drive, just reformatted it. The restore partition might still
exist.
Suggestion: Before you reformat a machine, always download the latest
drivers and burn a CD or put them on a USB drive first.

all of your drivers are available from dell here http://tinyurl.com/35d4fs
or you can simply go to support.dell.com and enter your system tag number to
get to the support page for your system that includes documentation and
these drivers. be sure to install the chip set driver first. use your
system tag number to determine your original system configuration
(support.dell.com and then 'warranty status' and then 'original
configuration (tab)) to make it easier to select the correct video and audio
drivers for you system (otherwise there are many possibilities).
good luck.

Thank you Tom. It wasn't so much me that could find the drivers but the Add
New Hardware Wizard. I had already been to the Dell Support Site using my
service tag and did get rather confused at the choices so I posted to the ng
in the hope that there might have been a quick solution.
Unfortunately my restore partion is gone. I used Partion Magic & & neither
the small partion nor the larger one are there although they did show up
using Partition Magic before so I must have deleted them.
I've now found some of the drivers I need but am still missing 3 -
Ethernet Controller
Multimedia Video Controller
and
IDT High Definition Audoi Codec
My Video Card is an ATI Radeon & I have installed the software for that
My Sound Card is a Creative Labs Audigy Advanced and I have installed the
software for that also.
I have also installed the Chipset software as that was marked as urgent on
the Dell support Site.
Any suggestions on the 3 missing drivers would be greatly appreciated.

As you can see from my reply to Tom's post I have now installed all but
three of the missing drivers. I am, however, at a bit of a loss where to
find drivers for the Ethernet Controller, the Multimedia Video Controller &
the IDT High Definition Audio Codec.

Ethernet controller will be listed as something like the Intel
10/100/1000 NIC (from memory). The Audio codec should be on the Dell
site under Audio. Might be something like SoundBlaster HD. The
multimedia video controller is usually a TV Tuner card. Do you have
one? Probably the Angel tuner.
I'm on a very slow hotel connection so I can't search right now, but if
you're still having problems, I'll look tonight.

I also recently visited Dell looking for possible updates and found a
mess of offered updates that didn't take my particular machine
(service tag) into account. The update by service tag feature isn't
what it used to be.

(*Or, you may have one of the various add-on TV tuner cards that have
drivers listed. Can't really know without your telling us or posting your
service tag)
