I am running XP Pro SP2. I ran and an error-check on C drive and checked the box to fix errors. It asked me if I wanted to schedule for the next re-boot and I clicked on YES. I re-booted and chkdsk did not run.
I searched the www and found the chkntfs command. I opened a command window and ran chkntfs and it indicated that chkdsk was scheduled to run manually at the next re-boot. I rebooted but, again, chkdsk did not run.
"chkdsk was scheduled to run manually at the next re-boot"
If it is set to start manually and you don't start it nothing will happen.
Plugin in your windows xp cd and chose to boot to it.
When the welcome screen appears where you have to options of install, repair and exit chose repair and you'll be able to launch the chkdsk command manually from the recovery console.
