Uhh, no. All I have used is what is on the NAS box.

It was suggested that I run a FTP client on one of my machines and map to the NAS box, but that is not what I bought this box for, so that I could access and share files without having to run computers 24/7.

Can an FTP client be loaded and run on the Argosy box? Or does it just have a file system with no real OS?

What is "active FTP?"

allmost all ftp clients can use the passive or the active mode.
most ftp clients use the passive mode as default.
this site explains the differences:
http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html

if you don't want to read all the explanations, here a short version:
if your ftp server has a private ip address, passive ftp does not work, unless your ftp server is smart enough to tell the client the public ip.

best regards

Have two questions I couldn't find answers for, I ask for help:

1) will I loose settings after firmware upgrade?
2) will I loose any data from HD after fw upgrade?

Thanks!

When I upgraded to the latest the scan did find a bunch of bad files the first time I ran it. There have been no more since. I beleive that the latest firmware is better at finding bad files and preventing more from getting corrupted. So far all the problems I was having with the drive crashing are gone! cool

I too have a 363n (firmware 007-1005) but with another problem.

Copying files to the drive-> OK
access with FTP or windows-explorer -> OK

access of files (mp3) on drive with an application like e.g. MP3TAG or AlbumCoverArtDownloader -> it does not find any files !? it does find (sub)directories !?

anybody else have this problem ????

Windows Media Player works fine on my drive. Some applications can't deal with network paths and you have to map drive letters to the drive folders to access them. Could that be your problem?

By the way, my drive is still up after three weeks - best I could do before was a couple days nod .

Nope,

that's not it

I have mapped drive-letters to the shares but the applications just don't see the files

This site seems to be the only place to come to to get answers about the
HD-363N. I've had one for several months now and have been quite happy
with it.

So I went out and purchased a second one. No matter what I do, it
doesn't appear that I can have them both connected at the same time and
powered on. I renamed the second one to "backup-xxxx" and the original
retains the "storage-xxxx" moniker. While the storage drive is running
I can map a drive in XP and find the device using IE by going to
http://storoge

If I turn the storage drive off and boot up the backup drive, I can map
map a drive to it in XP as well. I can also find the drive by going to
http://backup If I have both drives on at the same time, I can only
access the drive that was booted first.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks
Jim

This may be obvious, but have you checked the IP config on each device? Perhaps they're using the same IP address?

Thanks for the tips, here is what I have attempted to do so far.

I've tried allowing both devices to obtain an IP address automatically
(I have the DSL modem as the DHCP Server). This did not work.

I have tried setting a static IP on one device and allowing the other
to obtain automatically, but that also failed.

Lastly, I also set the IP on both devices, as xxx.xxx.xxx.253 and
xxx.xxx.xxx.252 where the modem is residing at xxx.xxx.xxx.254.

In all of these cases I can only access the device that was powered on
first. If I map network drives by doing a computer search in XP for
"Storage" or "Backup" when only one is powered on everything works as
expected.

Also, if I attempt to access the device through windows explorer via
typing:
\\storage\PUBLIC
it prompts me for a user name and password, but it will not accept
admin and my admin password.

When I get home this evening I will attempt to try all of these
senerios again to make sure I'm not missing anything. Is anyone else
here running 2 of these devices on the same network?

This verison is also must, if you want to access the drive in Windows Vista. Apart from this patch, you also need to the following:

Click "Start -> Run." Then, type in the Run field: "secpol.msc." That will bring you to Vista's security policy system. Once there, use "Go to: Local Policies > Security Options" and then find "Network Security: LAN Manager" authentication level. Once there, change the Setting from "Send NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM -- use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated."

Enjoy
