To keep track of which is the most recent firmware release, you should also consider the digit(s) before the date code. Below shows the sequence of firmware releases that I'm aware of:

2005:
02-0217
03-0311
04-0317
05-0607
06-1013
06-1215

2006:
07-0428

Why two 06 versions were released I have no idea.

Tritton was doing a pretty good job of tracking firmware history (LINK) but they have appeared to stop at 06-1013.

I have a Tritton nss001. I can not connect to it. I have tried connecting it directly to a mac and to windows xp. I have tried connecting it to the switch built into my router and then accessing it from a mac and win xp. No luck with any of this. If I attach it to the switch built into my router and then reset the device, I see the ip address 192.168.1.113 is reserved for 60 seconds. Of course I can not ping the address and after 60 seconds it disappers from my dhcp clients table and nothing else shows up. I tried the default ip address of 169.254.0.1 provided in the documentation and also a few other ip addresses that I found in this forum. Does anyone have any ideas on what else to try? I am very close to putting this thing in the garbage.

I have the INOI NDD version with firmware 04-0317, and this is what I did to connect just yesterday. First, connect directly to your PC's ethernet port. Be sure to turn off any firewalls, antispyware, or antivirus applications. Then, change the TCP/IP properties to disable DHCP on the PC's ethernet adapter. Assign a static IP in the same subnet as the HD363N, such as 169.254.0.2, open a command window and try pinging 169.254.0.1. If you don't get a reply, reset the NAS by holding in the power switch for 30 seconds, until the LED stops flashing. After I did this, I was able to login to http://storage/ and setup the NAS, format the hard drive, and view the drive in windows explorer. Next step for me is to connect to my router/switch, and configure it to allow access to the HD363N. Then, I have to configure my firewall and other applications to allow access. Good luck!

if the instruction from home_user should not bring you success, you might want to youse a network security analysing tool like cain, to search for your device.

Ok and then You post things like
news:Mzpyg.159718$vu2.88042@fe05.news.easynews.com
referencing "gain" without any further link ;-(
What type of help should this be?
No one would be able to use it without references/links!

Hi quest, don't understand.
Any BIOS provider I know provides flash update instructions.
And most of the time these will also be presented via
the mainboard homepages.

i noticed that you don't understand.
the bios provided by vgear, argosy etc. is packed and probably crypted.
you can only flash it via the webinterface, so you have to be able to access the webif to be able to reflash the box.

if you bricked the box, the webinterface won't work, and flashing the file from the website with a eeprom programmer won't help you a bit.

the flashdump that i made from my bios chip contains the unpacked bios that can be flashed with an eeprom programmer.... or most pc mainboards with a plcc32 socket.

i hope this clears things up.

Here is what I did after corupting my Storagebird Lan (=Tritton NSS001 =

ArgoSy HD363N):
connect it direcly to a PC with fixed IP e.g. 169.254.0.2 (and Subnet 255.255.
0.0)
Try to Ping to 169.254.0.1 (i.e. the NAS). At least this should work. Then I
did a portscan, found an open UDP port and tried a "TFP -i 169.254.0.1 PUT
<firmware.bin>". After waiting a minute or so, I powercycled the NAS and the
web user Interface was accessible again.

A new firmware was released recently, its called NetHDD007-0802.bin. Argosy released it on August 15th and I haven't seen it anywhere else nor is there a changelog.

Has anyone tried it out yet? I'd like to know what your experiences are.

Here's a direct link:

http://www.argosy.com.tw/mana_php/prod/file/Argosy-NetHDD007-0802.bin

So I thought I'd update the firmware releases list:

2005:
02-0217
03-0311
04-0317
05-0607
06-1013
06-1215

2006:
07-0428
07-0802

I recently purchased one of these drives and installed a WD 250GB drive. Several issues during setup.

First, instructions said set open browser and enter "http://storage/" and it will find drive on LAN. No, it found "PUBLIC STORAGE" on the web. Finally reset LAN settings to 169.xxx.xxx.xxx and it found drive, which I reset to fixed IP.

Format took about 15 seconds.

Have no idea what file system drive uses, but appears that there is no "root directory." Files must be in a folder, which then can be assigned to a FTP account. Also says some where that file size max is 4GB. FAT32?

My issue is the FTP account. No one can seem to access it. Times out. Some get login screen , then times out. Is this FTP issue or ISP issue?

Also the log files reset at 0000 hrs, so long term logging is out.

So far so good. Think other NAS boxes might be more versatile, but for $55 (+ drive), what can one expect?

I recently purchased one of these boxes and loaded a WD250 in it. After a little difficulty I was able to get it found on my LAN.

But for some reason, I (nor anyone else) can access the box thru FTP. Get the login screen but it times out.

My ISP (Comcast) says that there are no blocking issues.

Is it the box or FTP?
