I'm not sure what the problem is, but i kinda gave up on it. Its a bit annoying but if its a problem with the firmware, i hop it gets rectified soon.

I have e-mailed ARGOSY about it. Waiting for their reply. If i find out anything, i'll let you know. In the mean tme, i'll keep checking back here incase someone had this problem and found a solution.

Let me know if you find out anything new.

It's been awhile, so I thought I'd pop in and see what's new in this thread ... glad to see Argosy has continued to release firmware updates, and the end of file issue has been fixed.

As for the questions about FTPing, I'd suggest trying a tool called Beyond Compare (at www.scootersoftware.com); it has a fully functional 30 day trial. With this tool, you can compare the files on an FTP site to another location on your machine. I use it at work a lot to maintain an FTP site we provide to our customers. FYI.

You used to be able to telnet into the Tritton/Argosy NAS.
With recent firmware you can no longer do that.

The firmware that came in my box was accessible via telnet, but 6-1013 and later are not. I ran a port scanner on it, and the only ports that are open now are the FTP and HTTP ports. I think maybe they don't want people poking around in their system.

Perhaps your Landisk is the same, and simply does not allow telnet access.

I put the HD363N FTP service on Port 1720, the port presumably dedicated to NetMeeting (which I don't use).

Fix the IP Configuration to STATIC (not DHCP) inside your local network so it doesn't get changed by the router. I set mine to the internal xx.xx.xx.60 and my router assigns addresses starting at xx.xx.xx.100 so it won't conflict in case the HD36N is not on when the router is reset and computers are turned on. It's a detail.

Then setup your router to forward port 1721 to xx.xx.xx.60 in my case, or whatever you set for the fixed IP address of the HD36N.

The network mask is 255.255.255.0

The Gateway is your router IP, typically xx.xx.xx.1

The Primary and Secondary DNS can be found on
the router status page, or looking at the Network Connection
information on some computer in your network.

You'll need DNS if you use the automatic clock setting using SNTP
to set the clock in the HD36N (a great feature).

Then you can select Date/Time and change to SNTP Auto
and use the time server of your choice. I use clock.isg.org

I have some users specified with associated folders, and
this unit also allows a PUBLIC (anonymous) connection
that goes to a specific folder (PUBLIC).

And I haven't yet upgraded to the latest firmware, which
I'll do after writing down all my settings in case the
firmware update resets the HD36N.

Maybe someone can post the answer to

My Question: Ddoes upgrading the firmware from 1013 to 1216 reset all the permissions, etc.??

I hope this helps someone.

HalRogers

Are you able to upload and download file to NAS from outside your network without any file corruption issues ?

Normaly when when i download and files from NAS outside my network everything is fine, but uploading from outside my network corrupts some of my files. Sometimes the same file doesn't get corrupted when i upload it again later. Uploading locally is fine.

Please let me know if you experience the same issues.

Nedal:

You might try putting an FTP server on your pc and see if that has the same problem. If it does, you know that it is in your cable modem / router, and if it does not, you will know it is in the NAS itself. I have found the Guild FTP daemon to be a nice freeware one.

Nedal - No, no such problems with errors to the drive. I have two of them, one at each of my residences, that I use for friends, and for myself to move files around, put work-in-progress files there, etc., and never had a problem with file corruption.

But here's what I found got fixed with the 1215 Argosy firmware (it might have been mentioned before but I missed it)

Firmware 1013 Time was 1 hour off when Daylight Savings time box was checked (at least that was my experience). The time shown on the TIME screen for the owner administration differed by 1 hour from the time (hours) shown when one created a directory on the drive. Now, the 1215 firmware fixes that - what is shown as the time in the administrative 'web page' is the same as what the drive will use as a subdirectory time when a new directory is created. This makes backup programs a lot happier.

It makes sense that different 'brands' of HD363N all work fine with HD363N Firmware update from Argosy, that is NOT available from the taiwanese manufacturer directly.

Can you get your HD363N to act as an http web server?
Is there a firmware like Unslung that can do that?
Regards

Today I downloaded firmware version 007-0428 from Argosy's European region at http://www.argosy.nl/product/hd363n.htm. Included with the .bin file is a Word document that lists 20 fixes.

I hope this helps... Alan

It gets a bit confusing.

I suspect the version numbers might be build dates sans year, as in 1216 meaning December 16 and 0428 meaning April 28?

My 1216 has a modify date of March 3, 2006 and the 0428 has May 05, 2006. Hmm. Maybe that theory is busted.

I guess we might conclude this 0428 is "newer" then. The version numbers sure throw me though.

I wish I had a list of fixes in 1216 for comparison.
