if amd 2600+ is not recognized until bios is flashed what will show up now?
i hear it will say unrecognized cpu
however my real question is will it be running at the correct multiplier and
fsb with out doing the upgrade.
in some older boards the cpu would be running at the correct speed even
though the board said it was say a k6 2 300 at 4.5x 100 was actually 450
the problem here is that the cpu is auto detected and set now whereas back
then i had more control of the settings via jumpers. my board a fic au11
nForce2 chipset may let me set the multiplier in bios but i'm not sure
i hate to mess with the bios flashing unless its really necessary.

Do you mean like with a Sempron 2600+? In the cases that I have heard
of with other motherboards, the CPU gets reported by the BIOS as
something else (like an Athlon MP 2200+), but it still runs with the
correct multiplier and FSB. Those are determined by bridges on the CPU
package.

right,
it's an amd athlon xp2600+ 333fbs
Processor: XP 2600+ thoroughbred B athlon processor
mhz: 2075MHZ
Bus: 333MHZ
Stepping: AIUHB
Multiplier: 12.5
and cool that's what i hoped
i really dont care if it shows up as a 2100+ or somthing as long as the mult
and fsb are correct and it actully runs at the correct 2600+ 333 speed, i.e
about actully 2133MHz i think
i currently have a 1700+athlon xp running at 266fsb 11mult by 133 = 1470MHz
i think and it's nice so i hate to mess with the bios when i upgrade to the
2600+ athlon xp 333fsb and risk ruining the FIC AU11 nForce2 board.
in fact, i expect to have my new FIC KT748 SIS748 mobo any day now and its
rated at athlon xp 3200+ barton 333fsb out the box and even boasts 400fsb
capability, so i may just wait and use the 2600+ on that mobo.
